Today I started a Novena to St. Therese. Instead of driving, I walked around Poulsbo, specifically to the library which is my frequent hangout during lunch break. The prayer, along with the 24 Glory Be's, was nice to pray while walking up the big hill and being out in the sunshine eating blackberries along the way. I especially liked how the prayer states when asking the favor from God, "if it is in accordnace with Thy most Holy Will and is not an obstacle to my salvation." That, coupled with the 24 Glory Be's of gratitude, helped me have purity of intention and humility in the face of all my blessings.

As I was at my holy hour today I came across a piece of paper next to St. Anthony's shrine. It was a hand written note that said "No Fail Novena" or something like it. It explained how you are to come to the church in nine days of succession and recite a prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, ask for your intention, and then pray nine Hail Mary's. It says you must write out the Novena 8 (or 9?) times and leave it in different churches or it won't work. It seemed so strange to me, more like superstition than a prayer.
I like to think of novenas as a way to become closer to Christ through prayer. If that's the least I get out of it that's more than what I had before!
Hi, Joanna! Thanks. That line really made me stop and think. Yeah, that 'no fail novena' does sound more like a superstition. It's like saying 'blink three times and spin around and your wish will come true.'
I love novenas to St. Therese!! She is my confirmation saint and praying while taking that nice walk sounds even more peaceful. I am hoping to start one to St. Joseph in help of house searching!
