My gosh, I remember this book. I remember sitting in the chapel at the formation center in Wakefield, RI trying to read the "original" (or not so original as we now know) Spanish text. Really and truly, I am grateful that I had a hard time those two years "getting into" Maciel's book of letters called "Envoy."
And I'm thankful that the visitation has been underway and is now nearing an end. Let's hope that many changes are made within LC/RC and that the ones who helped Maciel in his double life and subsequent cover up will be removed.

He also wrote that book too? Man, and I thought I was the only one!

How far has Fr. Maciel and the Legion fallen? They are leaving St Louis which was their prime harvest zone for vocations. Why such a rush to go? The Register was given away (along with the debt) to EWTN. Thought that the operation might be worth at least $5.00 but I guess not even that. They could never get the story straight on Fr Maciel despite knowing him so well! Now they are trying to do living and deceased Popes a favor by yanking Fr Maciel's photo alone or with a Pope. Must be more canonizations planned in the future. Why not all the photos if he was such a bad person? Something doesn't sound quite right there. All I can say is that if you belong to the Legion - get out now while you can, while you have an easy way out. After this they will start up again about the "going to hell" bit if you leave and how you are rejecting your vocation given from all eternity ie rejecting God's plan for your life. Remember the song - just drop off the key-zie and get yourself free before you embrace insanity and the awful and idiotic plan that will soon be forced down your throat like a gift from the Almighty. When no one has been punished you know there is a problem - not a single LC - for any of the crazy things they did to keep Maciel a demigod and keep the cash running into his pocket. You think they would have sent out a token sacrificial lamb to take the brunt of the punishment but not even a boo out of the LC or Vatican regulators. Anyway, if you are in the LC/RC and very happy - stay there. if you return to normal society you might run into reality so best stay put and hide in your mental abyss. Just remember all the LCs, candidates and visitors who had mental breakdowns - I know of several. Remember the past Register editor (email Fr Owen if you have any doubt about that) who imprisoned a vocation prospect at the house in Rye after he had a mental breakdown. they put him up on the third floor and locked the door. He escaped during the night and caught a bus home. Remember the novice instructors who pushed young men to mental breakdowns or violence. Many even joke about it as if it was hilarious. The point is that it wasn't just Fr. Maciel so run and get out while you can. Good luck to those who left with their sanity....
